Personalise a gift by using the recipient’s initial as part of the embellishment.

Buy a letter stencil at a hardware store and cut out the letter from scrapbooking paper. Use it against an unpatterned background so that it stands out.

We used a cardboard box for one of our gifts and green sugar paper – an affordable type of art paper – to wrap the other. Decorate your gift with matching ribbon, cord or pins.

It’s not a bird, it’s not a plane, and it’s definitely not Superman. It’s a homemade aircraft guaranteed to bring the fun of flying toys to new heights — and lengths. Its odd design helps it sail impressive distances.

You will need:

  • 2 1-inch wide stripes of card stock, one 10 inches long, one 5 inches long
  • Non-bending drinking straw
  • Tape

Instructions:

1. Tape together the ends of each strip to form a loop. Align the loops at either end of the straw and tape them in place.

2.  To send the craft flying, hold the straw in the middle, hoops up and with the smaller hoop in the front, and throw it forward like a paper airplane.

Here’s a super simple way to assemble a flock of featherless friends. This nearly no-mess project is easy enough to make in minutes and let kids add lots of inspired elements of their own.

You will need:

  • Pencil
  • Coloured paper clips and
  • Hole punch or pushpins
  • Scissor
  • Glue stick

Instructions:

1. For each, draw a bird figure on a piece of scrapbook paper (or download our template). Cut out this figure, trace it, and cut out the matching shape.

2. Bend a colored paper clip or two into feet and tape them to the back side of one figure. Use a glue stick to join the two matching figures, sandwiching the paper clip legs between them.

3.   Make an eye with a hole punch or pushpin and adjust the legs so that the bird can stand on its own.
